Monthly meetings back on Ecclesall Road

22 Apr
April 22, 2015

Good news for everyone!! The meetings will be back on Ecclesall road as of next month (note next months meeting is Friday 8th May !!) . The venue is a lovely little bar / cafe just across from the Tesco Berkley car park (next to yankees) It’s called Couch see below

Let’s give it a go, we  certainly haven’t got anything to loose.  The place serves tap beers and bottles, wine and awesome coffee! Food too and it’s open until 10:30pm. We have the back section reserved for the first Friday of every month apart from the next one in may where it clashed with may day so we’re looking at the week after which is Friday the 8th of may. Anyone who thinks meetings are boring should come along too as it’s a pretty cool place and we’re going to go for a few drinks afterwards, so think it as a monthly excuse to have a few beers with your old pals =)

See you at the couch guys, 8:00pm

Cheers Bren

Hello Rutland CC,

Obituary – Gordon Scott (funeral details)

10 Mar
March 10, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing today (10th March) of one of our most hardworking Club members Gordon Scott. Gordon had been ill for some time and to say he will be missed is a massive understatement. Our thoughts go out to Barbara,Linsey,Gillian and the rest of the family at this very sad time.
Gordon’s funeral will take place on Friday 27th March, 11:30am at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium and afterwards at the Sheffield Moat House on Chesterfield Road South (S8 8BW).

Minty’s RR postponed until September.

07 Mar
March 7, 2015

Along with Andy’s health issues this year’s event was to clash with the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire and the Vets Tour of the Abberleys so it was decided to postpone Minty’s event until Sunday 6th September when hopefully there will be a few more Club members around to help promote the event.

Sunday Club run revival.

26 Feb
February 26, 2015

Alain is hoping to give the Sunday Club run a bit of a boost and carry on where Andy left off by organising a definite run on the first Sunday of each month. This was proving to be a succcess until Andy was otherwised engaged with hospital appointments last year and trips up to see his Mum in Scotland. Although a few of us do meet every Sunday at the ‘teacake’ meet at 9, Alain is proposing the following dates for the monthly Sunday run:-

March 8th – Newmillerdam, meet Tony Butterworths 9:15 for 9:30 depart.
April 19th
May 3rd
June 7th
July 12th – Cleethorpes Run
August 9th (Tumby’s RR at Stainton)
September 6th (Riding out to Minty’s RR with a spot of food on the return)
October 4th
November 8th

Will post a route for weekend after next (likely reprising a classic trip out to the Goyt that Andy devised winter before last), with the basic flavour being decent winter miles as a group with a café en route. More info to follow.

This popular event has regularly attracted in excess of 100 riders. In fact for the last two years it has received a record entry of 108. It would be great if it continues that way.

Obituary : Malcolm Cross

05 Nov
November 5, 2014

Neil Cross has been in touch today to inform us that his father and long-time Rutland member Malcolm Cross passed away yesterday (4th Nov). Many people especially the older members will know that he had a stroke 7 years ago, but had been living independently since. His health deteriorated recently and he had to stop doing his 15 mile hikes in the peaks last summer. He did take his bike out a few times after his stroke (one-handed and partly one-legged) which only stopped when he failed to mend his puncture and was probably a good idea all round.
Known as Koj to a lot of people Malc was part of the old Thursday night gang along with John Barnsley, Malc Pearce, Malc Elliott, Johnny Bargh, the Pickering brothers and Malc Chattle.

Malcolms’ funeral will be on Monday 17th November at St Timothy’s Church on Slinn Street, Crookes at 2.15 followed by the burial at Crookes Cemetery about 3ish, and then up to the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow from 4.30pm onwards. Any flowers to John Heath and Son.

To get to the the church follow the Crookes road from Broomhill up the hill to Crookes, past the shops, then turn sharp right onto Western Road, and then first left onto Slinn Street and St Timothy’s is on your left.

Speed with Pete Goodfellow (and Guy Martin)

28 Oct
October 28, 2014

For anyone who didn’t see Speed with Guy Martin on Sunday, it’s well worth a watch.

Star of the show is undoubtedly Rutland’s own Pete Goodfellow who was the previous British record holder of the record that Guy Martin is trying to break, the tandem 24 hour record.
