Oliver Pearce recently finished 2nd at the NZ U-23 National Road Race Championships, the results can be found at www.cyclingnz.com or his club website www.pegasuscycling.co.nz This result has certainly opened a few doors for Olly, he’s now at the NZ European Training Camp in Limoux, French Pyrenees for almost 4 months. He’s gone with the Elite NZ U-23 squad and they will be doing some awsome races. He’s got the Baby Giro, the Junior Liege-Baston-Liege and many more. He wants to try and stay on longer in France if he can.
The first weekend in March was the first event in the Benchmark 8 series. 137km and Malc Pearce finished about 30th and would have been just about the oldest guy in the race. This is the second year of these events and they are pretty good simulating the European style of racing with teams, team cars etc. Olly won last years U-23 trophy. Tom didn’t ride at the weekend - he took a mental break and also went to a party till late (like father like son). Its the NZ National Track Champs mid March on the new Invergargill Indoor Velodrome – Malc has decided not to ride due to cash flow and holiday reasons.
