CENTENARY DINNER & PRIZE PRESENTATION
Saturday 1st November 2008
As a result of the high demand for tickets to the Centenary Dinner it has been decided to change the venue from Wortley Hall on the outskirts of Sheffield to the Cutlers Hall in the City Centre.
Originally it was thought that Wortley Hall would be an ideal setting for our centenary celebrations but demand for tickets has exceeded our expectations so early on in the year that we have decided to move to this bigger venue.
The Cutlers Hall can seat in the region of 280 people, the date is still the same, Saturday 1st November. To visit the Cutlers Hall web-site click on cutlers-hall-sheffield.co.uk
The guest of honour is Barry Hoban who still holds the records for the most stage wins in the Tour de France by a British rider, winning eight between 1967 to 1975, and for the most Tours completed by a British rider ? having finished 11 of the 12 he started between 1965 and 1978. He was the only Briton to have won two consecutive stages of the Tour but that has now been equalled in this years Tour by Mark Cavendish.
The price of the tickets are £35 per person of which a deposit of £15 per ticket is required.
At the moment approximately 180 tickets have been sold so if you are intending on coming please give me a call or contact me through this web-site using the link below.
MID WEEK EVENTS AT CUCKNEY
Due to the lack of support the KPCC were thinking of making this week’s 10 the last one for this year but they have now reconsidered and are running one next week and will see how things go.Last night’s event was run in very good conditions and some good times were done Marc Mallender was fastest by almost 3 minutes but a lady Alex Deck was second, riding a road bike without tri-bars. I also wonder how many of us could do a 32m 06s ride with only one leg that really shows strength of character
- Marc Mallender 21m 16s
- Alex Deck 24m 56s
- Tony Morris 25m 26s
- M Edwards 25m 28s
- Paul Ogle 28m 19s
- John Barber 32m 06s
RUTLAND OPEN 25, July 2008
What a result Julian Ramsbottom certainly did a fantastic ride on such hot and humid day, putting Mark Wolstenholme into second place by over a minute. The highlight for our club was Alan West’s ride to gain third place, just look at the age gap 36,30,60, well done Alan.
Thanks to all the Rutlers who helped out, hope you are not suffering from sunburn, but no thanks to the CTT for putting the wrong details in the handbook I was fed up with riders ringing up to clarify which course it was on and what time the start was, two marshals had to give back word because they thought the start was 5PM. My apologies but the spreadsheet which some of you will already have seen is mixed up and not showing what it should or items are in the wrong columns, in trying to condense the sheet to make it a reasonable size has trashed it due to hidden columns on my sheet. My speadsheet is not affected and all is OK you will just have to trust me and if you decide to run it next year I’ll find a better way to put it on our site. There is another problem though, and that is, we were going to count the best points of SIX of the eight events but only three riders will be able to achieve this and all of them are Rutland riders. Maybe this year we count up to six rides but I don’t think it will affect the outcome either way Well only one more to go and I think it has been a success judging by the number of riders who have ridden. Do we want it next year?

Where were all you big strong men tonight, only one rider turned up a lady, how are you going to live this one down? Alex Deck did a 21m 23s which she didn’t think was too good but as there was no competition the adrenalin doesn’t flow as well because the atmosphere is not there. Only 2 more weeks to go.

Another record falls to this man, in the Nth Notts Olympic 50 on Saturday evening which was anything but ideal, with a strong wind blowing, George did a very creditable 2hr 34m 36s ride to break the existing record by, I think, 6 minutes. We wonder what he would have done on a good day, perhaps we shall find out later on this year. Congratulations George
