Obituary: Joe ‘Lofty’ Leversidge, June 2007
Joe’s great neice has written to the club through the web-site advising us of Joes death last Friday 22 June. The only details I have at the moment are that the service will be held at Hutcliffewood Crematorium on Wednesday 4 July at 1.30 p.m.
Our thoughts are with Joe’s family at this time.
Tim McCall
For those of you who remember Tim, here’s what he’s up to at the moment.

Oliver Pearce recently finished 2nd at the NZ U-23 National Road Race Championships, the results can be found at www.cyclingnz.com or his club website www.pegasuscycling.co.nz This result has certainly opened a few doors for Olly, he’s now at the NZ European Training Camp in Limoux, French Pyrenees for almost 4 months. He’s gone with the Elite NZ U-23 squad and they will be doing some awsome races. He’s got the Baby Giro, the Junior Liege-Baston-Liege and many more. He wants to try and stay on longer in France if he can.
The first weekend in March was the first event in the Benchmark 8 series. 137km and Malc Pearce finished about 30th and would have been just about the oldest guy in the race. This is the second year of these events and they are pretty good simulating the European style of racing with teams, team cars etc. Olly won last years U-23 trophy. Tom didn’t ride at the weekend - he took a mental break and also went to a party till late (like father like son). Its the NZ National Track Champs mid March on the new Invergargill Indoor Velodrome – Malc has decided not to ride due to cash flow and holiday reasons. He’s pretty gutted as he reckoned he would have medalled in the Old Crinkly’s

These pictures are of Malcolm and Tracey Pearce who emigrated to New Zealand in January 1994 with their two sons Oliver and Thomas. They were taken by Pete Dungworth (Sheffield Sports CC) when he spent a month out there in October 2006 with his wife Alysoun.
Malc, along with Les and Brian Pickering and Martin ‘Coucho’ Teanby had set off from Shefffield on their bikes in October 1980 to travel the World and did just that for the following four years. On their return to the UK they have all emigrated, Malc and Tracey to NZ, Coucho to NZ and Les and Brian to France.
Malc’s decision to leave the UK was made after he was made redundant from his job at the Whitbread Brewery at Ladysbridge and so he packed his bags and left for a better life on the other side of the world. Tracey’s Mum and Dad, Olivia and George Clarke also emigrated a year later as did her sister Debbie.
Malc celebrated his 50th birthday just after Christmas and is still racing out in NZ wuppin’ it up as only Malc could. Both Oliver and Tom have followed in Dads wheel tracks and also race, Oliver having represented NZ at the Junior Worlds in Belgium in 2006.

messages from ex members
Is it possible for an ex Rutland member to pass on through the web site my congratulations to George Steers. George was a vet when I joined the club in 1963 .It does not seem possible that he is still as fit at his ripe old age.
The web site is great and its good to see the club doing so well .I’ve been in 3 other clubs since leaving Sheffield but none can hold a light to the Rutland for the friendship I had there .
I now live in the highlands but still do a little on the bike.
Thank you
